Garden treatment against ticks
Ticks again after playing in the yard with the kids and the dog? A garden treatment reduces the number of ticks on the lawn and in the shrubs.
Where ticks are in the garden
Ticks wait in long grass and shrubs until a person or animal walks past. Latvia is one of the regions in Europe with a high risk of tick-borne encephalitis.
Especially along fences, under shrubs and at the edge of the forest.
If your dog or cat often brings ticks home, they are in the yard.
Ticks are active from early spring, once the air is a few degrees above freezing.
Gardens next to forest, meadows and water usually have more ticks.
Why mowing alone isn't enough
Mowing helps, but ticks stay low in the grass and in shrubs.
Grass along fences and under shrubs usually isn't mown, and it stays damp there for ticks.
Hedgehogs, birds and deer bring ticks back in.
Ticks can wait for months without food.
